Medical opinions for seafarers

Independent review of medical records for seafarers: disputes about fitness for sea service, accidents and illness on board, and alleged treatment errors — including treatment in several countries.

Fitness for sea service

Seafarer medical certificates in Poland are issued by authorised physicians under the Act of 5 August 2015 on maritime work; decisions can be challenged through the statutory appeal procedure. Our opinion does not replace the certificate or that procedure. It can organise the records and show whether they contain medical arguments — as material for you or your lawyer.

Accident or illness on board

We review records from the voyage and later treatment: accident reports, treatment in foreign ports, repatriation, treatment and rehabilitation in Poland. We assess consequences, causation and work capacity within the agreed questions. Who is liable for benefits (e.g. ZUS, the shipowner, a P&I insurer) depends on the flag and contract and is assessed by your lawyer or the competent body.

Treatment abroad and treatment errors

Seafarers are often treated in several countries, with records in different languages. We build a treatment timeline and assess its appropriateness within what the records show. Translations are agreed before work starts.

Documents worth collecting

Medical certificates and decisions, records of treatment on board and in ports, discharge summaries, test results, sick notes and correspondence with the shipowner or insurer. Please do not send them via the form or ordinary email — we provide a transfer channel once the scope is agreed.

What we do not do

We do not issue seafarer medical certificates or statutory decisions, do not examine patients in Poland and do not assess legal claims. We do not promise any outcome.
